What causes my dog to bite one paw nail after professional trims?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 6 months old

Hi My yorkie sometimes bites the nail on the side of her paw. I take her to have her nails trimmed so I dont think its long but she still bites that nail every now and again. What could be the cause? Thank you

I suggest you have your vet check her out if she is only biting that one nail. There may be an issue that you cannot see going on with it. If your vet can rule out a medical issue with the nail they can help you determine if this is a serious issue or she is just doing this from habit. Always rule out an underlying medical condition before assuming it is behavioral. ( https://www.dailydogstuff.com/why-do-dogs-bite-their-nails/ )
