Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | 8 years and 2 months old

My dog vomited yesterday. I noticed today he is weak and in pain. He have difficulty standing and sitting. When he rested his head on one side he whimpered in pain. He still eats heartily though. He still have appetite eating. He was bitten in the ears by another dog 2 months ago. My dog is complete with vaccines for 8years continuously but the other dog does not have vaccines. Is my dog infected with rabbies or other virus?

Rabies infection seems unlikely at this stage. This may be more related to a gastrointestinal inflammation/infection. As a first approach, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
