You may see light bleeding or discharge for several weeks after whelping. Monitor for lethargy, odor, heavy bleeding, pale gums, exercise intolerance or difficulty breathing. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

    A little bloody discharge is normal after giving birth, and this can last for a week or two. Babygirl may be crying due to discomfort. When the puppies nurse, that causes the release of oxytocin, which makes the uterus contract causing some pain. But it can also signal a problem. I'd take her and her puppies into a vet immediately to get checked out.
