My senior cat pees outside the box. Could it be tapeworms or thyroid?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Female | spayed | 14 years old | 11 lbs

Can tapeworm cause a cat to "misbehave" by peeing/pooping out of her litter box? I'm having to use potty training pads for her peeing on the carpet! She's a senior cat, with a thyroid issue as well. Maybe getting senile?

tapeworms are not likely to be the cause, the hyperthyroidism though can be related, maybe you need to take her to the vet to have her thyroid levels checked, she may need an adjustment for her treatment.
