Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | unspayed
My 2& half year old female dog has some reddish brown discharge last night, it was stringy like and at first I thought she was in heat but I don’t think that’s possible as she was in heat only in October. I’ve only noticed it once and she’s been well in herself, eating and drinking perfectly fine and no other concerns. Is it something I should be worried about and do I need to make an appointment at my local vets?

Vaginal discharge can be caused by a number of things. Both the urethra and vaginal openings exit the vaginal/vulvar area so discharge could indicate a problem with the urinary tract or with the reproductive tract. With any strange discharge, it is a good idea to schedule a veterinary appointment to check it out. If the discharge becomes cloudy, green or yellow in color, it is best to seek veterinary care as soon as possible as that may indicate something more serious such as a uterine infection.
