My obese rabbit loves pellets. What hay can I feed without Timothy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 11 months old

I got an obese rabbit. I want to put him on a diet. He has developed fat on neck. Also he is very much addicted to pellets. I want to give hay but in India Timothy hay is not available easily. Please suggest what to do?

Thanks for reaching out about Badu and including photos. Bermuda grass, oat hay and some other grass (not alfalfa) are all possible sources of high fiber and low calories. Pellets should be halved. Rabbits also need to be spayed to prevent uterine neoplasia. Good luck.
