When should my new kitten get its first vaccinations and what types?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 7 days old

Hello, I recently purchased a Persian kitten. The kittens birthday is 10/16/19. I was told that the kitten had his first deworming done. I was wondering when I should take him in to receive his first set of vaccinations and what vaccines he will need. I would really appreciate any information about this that you would have to offer.

Hello. Louis is due for his first set of vaccinations. He also needs to have a fecal analysis done, even if he has been wormed once. I strongly recommend also testing for feline leukemia/feline immunodeficiency virus at the first visit. Kittens should be vaccinated for panleukopenia, calicivirus & feline herpes virus 1 at 9, 12 & 16 weeks, feline leukemia at 12 & 16 weeks & rabies at 12 or 16 weeks of age. Your veterinarian may have his own protocol, but this is a general recommendation. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
