My dog is licking his paw with a spot. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | 3 years and 1 month old | 58 lbs

I was out of town and we noticed when we got back he was licking his paw. He is running around like normal and acts normal but has this spot. I cleaned it with soap and water but not sure if I should try and get into the vet or see how it does over the weekend.

If it doesn't seem to be bothering him then you could soak his paw in a warm Epsom salt solution for 5 minutes twice a day and monitor. If the lesion persists or becomes worse, then he should be examined and treated by your vet. He may need an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory to treat.
