Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Female | 15 lbs

Hi is it normal for my dog who is 9yrs old to have incompetence? She just had pyometra surgery on almost a week ago, since then she goes to the bathroom inside she has no interest In going outside for walks anymore. Also if you leave her alone for few min she starts crying until someone sit with her again. So not sure if all of this or normal behavior or should I be concerned.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Yes, incontinence is definitely a possibility but there could certainly be something else going on being that she just had pyometra surgery a week ago. Maybe she is in pain and doesn't want to go outside? It is best to take her back to your vet for a follow-up and to have a urine sample checked. I would be concerned and not consider this to be normal. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
