My dog has had on-and-off diarrhea for two weeks. Should I see a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | spayed | 10 years and 4 months old | 15 lbs

Two weeks ago my dog started having on and off diarrhoea, on day two she threw up and was lethargic.Next day fine , but the on and off diarrhoea is still going . I’ve put her on the diet for it , slowly adding in normal foods again but its still happening on and off . Even when it’s firm it’s yellow inside. A week and a half ago she had some bones and one of her stools came out dark brown yellow with hints of burgundy, but nothing like that since. Her behaviour is fine but should she see a vet?

Hello. Yes, at this point, a vet visit is recommended. If stool issues continue for more than 3-5 days, sometimes the bacteria in the gut can become altered and an intestinal antibiotic is needed to restore the normal balance. Your vet will probably run a fecal test and May prescribe a medication called Metronidazole or other medications according to the results of the test. You have done the appropriate at home remedies and it hasn’t resolved, so it is likely that some prescription medication is needed. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach
