Hello. A 40 - 45 pound dog would need to eat about 6 ounces of pure milk chocolate, or about 3 ounces of dark, sweet chocolate before you would see signs of toxicity such as vomiting & diarrhea. There is generally not much actual chocolate in most cookies, but especially in animal crackers. Sassy should remain just fine, but I do always caution about the possibility some some stomach upset when a pet eats an unusual food. Fortunately, if she does have an episode of vomiting or diarrhea, this should be mild & self limiting in a dog this size. I hope all is well with Sassy & thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am not very concerned at all about this. The amount of chocolate in these cookies is small and unlikely to cause a problem for a dog this size. As always, watch for vomiting more than once, diarrhea, and pacing- just in case. If you see these, it’s time to see the vet to be sure heart rate and blood pressure do not signal a problem. Best wishes to you and Elliot!
