My cat's face has a scratch from another cat. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 months and 8 days old | 3 lbs

Hello, I recently saw a mark on my cats face, it started out as a small “mat” looking scar. and then he opened it up by scratching it and i’m not sure what to do. We think it was the other cat that we have in our house because she is very playful with him and will bite him and jump on him. What are your thoughts? And what should I do?

It looks like he has a hotspot/skin infection so he should be examined and treated by a vet. Your vet can clean the wound and prescribe an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory to treat. He may need to wear an E-collar to prevent scratching to allow healing.
