My cat's eye scratch isn't healing. When should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 years and 10 months old | 10 lbs

My cat seemed to have scratch his eye and it doesn’t seem to be getting better. I had bought an ointment from pet smart and it usually helps but not this time.

If the ointment is not helping then he needs to be examined by your vet to determine the proper treatment. Your vet can do a thorough exam exam and some diagnostic testing ,if needed, to determine the cause of his problem and then prescribe the appropriate medications.
