My dog's poop is purple. What could be causing this unusual color?

Hello, I have an American Akita who is only 3 years old. Today he had a very purple solid poop. Can someone give me an idea of what may be causing this? Pet's info: Dog | Akita | Male | neutered | 3 years and 3 months old | 150 lbs

It looks like he may have eaten something that had a strong coloring in it. If his dog food has artificial coloring or a chew toy, this may be where it came from. If this continues or he hasn't had access to anything to eat that was a similar color, call your vet and ask their advice.
