My dog has a head wound and another dog keeps licking it. Help!

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 100 lbs

Our dog has this on to her head. Don’t know where it came from and one of our other dogs just won’t stop licking it. We have it covered best we can now and some antibiotic ointment on it. We are truck drivers and it is hard for us to get to a vet in a big rig. Please help

Hi and thanks for your request. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any).
