I noticed my dog has some bumps and redness on her belly for a few days now. She seems to be itchy there as well. Is there any home remedies I can use to help her? What could this be? Should I take her to the vet?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Michelle. There are many causes of skin disease in dogs and unfortunately, the majority cause the skin to turn red and itch. That being said, seasonal allergies are common this time of year. Humans inhale allergens such as grasses, weeds, pollens and molds. This results in watery eyes and a runny nose. Dogs can experience these symptoms, but they walk through the grass. This tends create inflammation and itching on the belly and paws. This potentially could be her problem. I recommend bathing her with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe the skin. If this does not resolve the issue, then she will need to see her veterinarian. If there is an infection present, she could require antibiotics or a prescription anti-itch medication. You can place an E-collar on her to prevent any further self trauma in the meantime. I hope this information helps!
