My new cat isn't drinking or using litter box. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

I adopted a cat and brought her home yesterday. Since then, I don't think she's had anything to drink from the water fountain or water dish, and she's only used her litter box once that I can tell. I'm feeding her wet food twice daily & she's eating most of it, so she's had some water from wet food. Is this normal new cat behavior?

She may be stressed from the change in environment. Give her a few days to adjust. You could get a Feliway diffuser to help with the adjustment. If she seems lethargic or stops eating, she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause.
