My cat is puffing air from nose and stopped breathing. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Snow Tiger Siamese | Female | spayed | 2 years and 10 months old | 11 lbs

My cat (3 years old) Lynx Point Siamese was giving little puffs of air out of her nose last night and wouldnt move. The puffs got louder and she stopped breathing for about 30 seconds. I am wondering if something serious is wrong or if this is a rare thing cata just do?

If she was sleeping, she could have been dreaming, which can change the respiratory rate and cause them to do little things like you described. But if she wasn't sleeping, then I would be concerned about a respiratory or other issue. I would recommend taking Nova to the vet for evaluation. If this continues to happen, try to capture it on video so the vet can see what is going on. They may recommend x-rays to look at the heart and lungs.
