My dog's paw got sliced on a walk. Does it need stitches to heal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

We toke our dog a walk yesterday and something in the field has sliced his paw, do you think this will need stitched or will it heal on it's own.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The wound will heal much quicker when is stitched up. If it is left without stitches, it will be prone to keep bleeding when your dog is walking and it could easily get infected.
