How to help an aggressive, hiding adopted cat adjust to a new home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | 8.88 lbs

My cat is aggressive since I took her from her old owner which adapted her for 3 years. It’s been 2 months with my cat but she is so aggressive I can’t hold her or put her on my lap, she barely play and mostly at night time when everybody is sleeping and it’s quite. To be honest whenever she comes out from under the bed because most of her time is there, we all go to try to pet her or play with her. Can this be the reason?

You are trying to force her to interact and you need to let her settle in right now. You cannot force her; that will make her worse. I recommend you put some Feliway diffusers in your house and do some environmental enrichment for her. Usually these two things help. https://worldtails.securevetsource.com/itemView/view/198944_HomeDelivery.pml?productId=117324 thedrakecenter.com/materials/environmental-enrichment-indoor-cats  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AejmrLa_Cs4 Also, start her on a calming supplement like this one would help. https://worldtails.securevetsource.com/itemView/view/198944_HomeDelivery.pml?productId=115875
