Why is my senior dog yelping and struggling to walk or use stairs?

My dog isn’t walking the same way as he usually does. He isn’t going up the stairs like he normally does and I picked him up and when I grabbed him under his armpits ... he squealed. Not always.. it depends how we grab him. He is a 9yr old chihuahua. Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 6 lbs

This could explain the symptoms that he is displaying. The veterinarian will examine him and determine if this is the case. If so, x-rays may be recommended. From there, anti-inflammatory medication, pain medication and muscle relaxants are typically prescribed. In the meantime, keep him quiet and do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs I hope this information helps!
