My dog's swelling after heat is slow to go down. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Female | spayed | 10 months and 16 days old | 25 lbs

Dr. Melanie or somebody, why isn’t that normal? Her vagina is still swollen too and looks like the swelling is going down veryyyyy slowly. Do you think it might be fluid retention in her thighs? What are you thinking? Please share your thoughts so I can bring them up to the vet. Please put my mind at easy. If I lose her, I’m going to be devastated so please share. Her heat ended like a month ago.

I think this may be related to the heat cycle, swelling of the mammary gland and fatty tissue related to it could be completely normal and it could take a while to get back to normal. A check up would be needed anyway to confirm this suspicion, but at this stage it does not look like a life threatening condition or a concerning one.
