My dog is limping, not putting weight on his leg. Is it a sprain?

Buddy is limping. He is not putting a weight on his back left leg. Nothing is broken but he seems very tender on his left back leg. Is this just a sprain or pulled muscle because he is very rambunctious? And nothing is swollen either.

If nothing is swollen, then that means a fracture is less likely, but a tendon or ligament tear is still possible here. Have Buddy examined by your vet to determine if there is a CCL tear, which is one of the most common injuries in the back legs in large breed dogs. If this is just a muscle sprain, then the limping should gradually improve over the next 1-2 weeks with restricted acitivity and rest. I hope that things work out well for your pet Buddy moving forward. Best wishes and take care.
