Painful, squishy lump on dog after spay: Is it a hernia or fluid?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

This lump is soft/ kind of squishy. It's on both sides but more on one side than the other. Is it a hernia or like a fluid sack. She's in a lot of pain even though shes 5 day post op (spay). This came up within two hours today

We cannot tell you which it is just by looking at a photo. It needs to be palpated by a vet in person. Sorry, that is the best we can tell you without examining her ourselves. Soft and squishy can be either a hernia or a seroma (fluid). It is concerning because you stated she is painful and the swelling is asymmetrical. Get her back to the vet for a follow-up. Usually a post-op exams are free at most vet clinics. It is just any additional meds or testing that would be charged for.
