My French Bulldog has a pink, swollen, painless stomach lump. Serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | spayed | 6 years and 4 months old | 40 lbs

Today, I noticed a pink growth on my French Bulldog’s stomach right above her nipple. When I touch it, she doesn’t show any signs of pain and it’s mobility is limited compared to her nipples. She is acting completely normal. Looking back at photos, she seems to have had it since around January, however, it looks more swollen now. I have an appt Friday to have it examined, but I am very nervous. Does it look like a lipoma/old pup bump, or something more serious such as a mast cell tumor?

Hi, unfortunately it is impossible to judge a lump just based on its appearance. Big mistakes could be made! I would say just try not to worry too much, Friday is close and a couple of days will not make a difference. There are different kinds of benign lumps that can occur on the skin of dogs too. Your vet will probably want to take fine needle aspirates from it and will come up with a plan to make sure that Cookie is well and that the lump is treated as necessary.
