Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 10.2 lbs
I took my cat to the vet today to get her ears checked after seeing some brown ear discharge. My vet diagnosed it as a mild to moderate bacterial infection and gave me ear drops mixed with TrizKeto/Baytril/Dexemethasone. Once a day for a week. I forgot to ask her what’s the cause of bacterial infection? So I wanted to ask here. And if there’s any way to prevent it? Will the ear drops she gave treat the infection? My cat is indoor only, but sometimes escapes. She’s also on Revolution.

I am sorry to hear about Lulu but glad she is being treated! An ear infection can occur when the normal ear environment is altered due to things like allergies, trauma, or excessive moisture in the ear (which can be due to bathing, swimming, or a conformational abnormality). If the ear infections become recurrent we do often suspect allergies and you can discuss this possibility with your veterinarian. Best of luck to you and Lulu!
