My dog has a new lump on his head. Is it cancerous? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2.2 lbs

I let my dogs out for a hour or two and one of them came back in with a knot on he’s head! I googled it but it said it can be cancerous. I wanted to see if you can help me out with that?

It's more likely to be a swelling from trauma, i would recommend waiting at least a few days to see the swelling starts going down, if it doesn't then the lump will need to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take him to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.
