My bearded dragon won't eat veggies. How can I make him eat greens?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Okay so my situation is that my beardie refuses to eat his veggies nd fruits! What can I do to make him eat his veggies? I have no problem getting him eating bugs at all. He loves his roaches nd worms! He is a very spoiled little 3 month old beardie! Please help with getting him to eat some kinda plant whether its a live plant or fresh veggies from Wal-Mart. And what will happen if he doesn't start eating his veggies? There's gotta be a long term effect from beardies not eating their greens.

At this age be aware that greens should only be about 25-30% of his diet so try not to overload him with them. When you do offer them, they should be finely chopped so he can easily eat them (not large leafs of lettuce, etc). Offer greens (a small amount) once per day. Try a different variety of things daily to see what he likes. https://www.beardeddragoncare101.com/how-to-feed-bearded-dragon/ Here is a link to an article about what fruits/veggies they can eat: http://animals.mom.me/list-of-foods-for-a-bearded-dragon-12272817.html You may want to try this salad dressing to entice him: https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=27593 Hope this helps.

Hi there, I'm glad your beardie is doing so well. When they are youngsters, it can be hard to get them to eat their veggies. You may need to cut back on the insects a bit so he is more hungry. Try offering the veggies every day and insects every other day or veggies all day and only a few insects in the evening until he adjusts. As he gets older, it will be less insects and more veggies in the diet anyway. You want to make sure that during the week he overall gets enough insects so he is not losing weight-- but encourage him to eat the veggies. And make sure you chop your veggies really small so they are easier to eat.
