My large senior dog has pain getting up. What can I give her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 7 years and 2 months old | 91 lbs

I have a 7 year old female German shepherd rottweiler mix that weighs 91lbs. She is having pain getting up from a laying position. She had a walk today and spent a lot of time outside so I'm assuming she is hurting. Is there anything I can give her for pain?

Unfortunately there is no safe medications over the counter for pain. It sounds like she is having some arthritis flare-ups which is very common at this age in large dogs. I would get Bella on a good glucosamine/chondroitin supplement. It will take a while to reach good levels but after 4-6 weeks it should really help her out. You can talk to your veterinarian about a good brand they recommend. They can also prescribe her some anti-inflammatories to use for pain.
