My dog has new bumps and hair thinning. What's the likely cause?

Carol started to get bumps on the top of her head and down her torso that were itchy. The itch reduced with benadryl. We also did Prednisone for 2 days as her vet thought it was a reaction to a bug bite. The prednisone was stopped b/c GI upset. Bumps cleared. Last week I noticed that her hair is thinning on her lower lumbar as well as another bump. This one is more visible and is larger (about 2cm×1cm), also feels different; less like a bug bite or a scab. I am unsure if theserelated. Pet's info: Dog | Redbone Coonhound | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 67 lbs

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. While this may be related to the itchiness and inflammation, this can also be an isolated issue. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign.
