My dog has bloody urine after vet visit for diarrhea. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | neutered | 12 years and 2 months old | 25 lbs

My 11 year old pug mix has sudden onset diarrhea that has been happening for about 3 days. Took him to the vet and they instructed no food for 24 hours and started him on 3 different meds. As soon as we get home he jumps out of the car and passes bloody urine! I haven't noticed bloody urine, but I cannot say 100% that it is the first. I am freaking out... I cannot afford another vet visit this week either. I don't know what to do.

It is possible that Tank has a prostate problem or a urinary tract disorder such as a bladder infection, bladder stones / crystals, bladder tumor, etc. If he is otherwise normal and seems ok, I would recommend monitoring for now. If the symptom worsens or does not resolve, then I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would also contact the original veterinarian and discuss with him / her over the phone what is going on with Tank as well. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
