My puppy hasn't pooped since diarrhea and diet change. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 15 days old | 30 lbs

7 month old puppy. Rescue. Only had her a month. Was gone for a week on an expected work trip so she stayed with friends. Had diarrhea with new food. Started feeding her planned ground turkey and white rice yesterday afternoon and she hasn’t pooped since. Is this an emergency or should I wait another day?

It's quite normal for them to not poop for a day or two when the diarrhea gets better. This alone would not be a concern. If she was not pooping and also not eating/drinking and acting depressed/painful, then I would be more concerned and recommend an urgent visit to the vet. If she is otherwise acting normal, then I would not be concerned and recommend waiting a day or two if all else is normal.
