My 6-month-old puppy has gas. What food or supplements can help?

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 15 days old | 15 lbs

Hello. We have a very sweet 6 month old Boston Terrier/Pug mix. Recently, she has had a bit of gas (occasionally smelling). This has been going on for about a month (PS - she just recently went into her first heat). We are currently feeding her high quality food (Fromm Puppy Gold) Any recommendations?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Based on your description and seeing that she is 6 months of age, it is likely that this is a dietary sensitivity. This could also be an imbalance of the normal intestinal bacteria. Many cases of GI upset such as vomiting, diarrhea or excessive flatulence can be directly linked to the diet or not enough healthy good bacteria in the gut. I would suggest transitioning to a different diet such as Natural Balance, Royal Canin or Science Diet. I would feed the new food for at least 4 weeks to see if this helps with the flatulence. If it does not, I would switch to a different food a second time and if after the second food switch the flatulence continues then I would recommend adding in a probiotic such as Purina fortiflora which can be found online or at your local pet store quite easily. I hope this helps! Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
