My dog has a weeping eye with green discharge. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 3 months old | 90 lbs

My 90 lb Shepard lab mix has a weeping eye. The color is slightly green when it accumulates. Started about 2-3 days ago. do Vetco Clinics prescribe arithromycin? Would that be the RX? Anything over the counter I should try? Thanks!

Poor Rex! This sounds like possible allergies with a secondary conjunctivitis. It could also be a corneal ulcer or scratch. Unfortunately, there are no antibiotics drops that are sold over the counter and it sounds like this is what Rex may need. There are a bunch of different types of eye drops which are used for different things. Different vet clinics carry different types. I would have your vet take a look at the eye and get him started on the proper eye drops for his particular problem . I hope this helps!
