What's this pink spot on my dog's lip? Is it safe to wait for the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 7 years and 3 months old | 21 lbs

A round pink area has appeared on my JRTs upper lip, just below his nostril. It doesn't appear to bother him, and I didn't notice it before today. I have a vet appt in one week, is it safe to wait that long? And what might it be?

This looks like a wart or a little tumor, but it could also be a mechanically irritated area that shows an inflammatory reaction. If you are able to, measure its diameter and write it down. There is no need to make an extra appointment with your vet, your regular one in one week will be ok. bring the measurement with you and it will be possible to see how much and how fast the lesion grew within the week. Your vet may want to do a little biopsy or fine needle aspirate which will help determine the nature of the mass.
