Hello, my cat has Irritable bowel sybdrome (IBS) and he's on probiotics (powder) and it doesn't seem to be doing much for him he still has chronic diarrhea. I would like to know if it's okay to give him something else asides from that?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Yayo! I treat IBD with a prescription diet, metronidazole or tylosin. If that doesn’t help then I add in a steroid, either budwsonide or prednisone. I don’t think a different probiotic will help. Also be sure he has been dewormed and tested for tritrichomonas. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Most cats improve just with a diet change to something better tolerated. You may try a hypoallergenic diet such as Royal canin Ultamino. Other ones include Science Diet z/d. In some cases, steroids and other medications are also useful but a diet change is a good place to start. An anti-diarrhea medication such as metronidazole can be used on an as needed basis. You may continue the probiotics. Good luck and have a great day!
