Dog scratching constantly, suspect mange. How to help without a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed

I think Lola, my blue nose pit, might have mange. unfortunately at this time I am very tight on money and honestly cant afford a vet visit or else I would've taken her right away. So my question is, is there anything affordable or anything I can do for her to relieve all that scratching she does? I've been told that benadryl should somewhat help so that's what I started giving her. I noticed she started scratching about 2 weeks ago and the benadryl I started giving it to her 3 days ago. Thanks

Poor Lola! I recommend to try to have her examined as soon as you can get her in. Certain clinics like Banfield and VCA will offer free exams to new clients with a coupon you can print off line. This will help to save some money. Certain types of flea prevention can kill manage and you may be able to buy them month by month so it wouldn't be too expensive. Otherwise things that can help relieve itching include continuing the antihistamine, baths with oatmeal type pet shampoo and starting her on an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs. The key is to get the underlying condition addressed quickly. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
