My puppy's ear is red and bleeding after cleaning. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 12 days old | 5 lbs

I noticed a large amount of ear wax in my puppy's ear. I bought some ear cleaning liquid for it. I used q-tips that were dipped in the liquid and cleaned and then poured some on a cotton swab to get any last residue. I noticed her ear were quite red and was bleeding a little. Should I be worried? She's 10 weeks old.

Normal ear cleaning should not cause this much redness. An existing ear infection can cause the skin to be extra sensitive and that could allow this. If you were too rough, that could do it too. Lastly, a reaction to the cleaner could also do it. I recommend to have Cricket examined by the veterinarian and checked for an ear infection. It's best to play it safe. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
