Is my old dog's appetite loss, incontinence, and lethargy normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Springer Spaniel | Female | unspayed | 5 years and 4 months old | 37.6 lbs

My dog is now 10 years old. Lately she was losing appetite, refusing to get up for walks and don't even greet when someone returns(she always greeted us at door) and snoring very loudly. Also her bladder seems can't hold well too so we get her out every 3-4 hours but she still urinate at home some times. Yesterday morning she urinated on her bed, this happened today too. And she didn't eat anything from yesterday evening but still drinking water. Is it related to old age?

Yes, most likely those things are related to aging but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t things that can be done to help her out. It sounds like she has urinary incontinence which is easily managed with medication. It also sounds like she has some arthritis which is probably why she doesn’t want to get up and maybe why she’s not eating that well. Again, there are medications available to help her. I suggest you get her to your vet for an exam because there may be things you can do to make her more comfortable.
