My cat's eye is squinting, rubbing, and has mucus. Is it serious?

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Male | neutered | 9.1 lbs

My cat as been squinting and rubbing his eye. There appears to be some form of mucus and it seems maybe slightly inflamed? I don’t know what to do or if it’s super serious

Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.     Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Tink. I suspect he may have an eye infection. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I'd take him into a vet today. Best of luck.
