Why isn't my new kitten using the litter box? Is it normal for her?

We have just got a new kitten last night and she still hasn't used the litter box. She seemed to be a bit upset with lots of meowing until we fed her. She still hides away in the box that we provided for her and she escaped this morning from her safe room. Just wanted to know if this is normal for a new kitten not to use the litter box and any advice on it. I did place her in there after her meal and she climbed out again so i did it again and the same happened. please...any advice? Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 25 days old

This is not unusual. You should keep Sheba in her room with her litter box until you are sure she knows how to use it. Also check the room for any accidents. Make sure you are using a clay based, clumping cat litter in an uncovered litter box. Sheba will come around with some time.
