My dogs have giardia that won't clear. How do I stop re-infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pointer | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old

Hello, I have 9dogs,between 1 and 2 years old. 3 months ago one of them started having bad diaree, vet found out she had giardia. They were all put on meds, and check ups every 3 weeks, but the giardia is not gone, the youngest ones eat poo and reinfect everyone.i tried fixing that, couldn't. They have stomach problems, diaree, eating grass, puking white frothy vomit. I started giving them coconut oil, oregano oil and Grapefruit Seed Extract. Is it ok?! What else can I do?! Thank you

It's likely the pets are being re-infected in the environment. I don't think the supplements will hep clear the giardia. I recommend treating as often as needed and environmental clean up. I recommend restesting the dogs 6 weeks after finishing treatment using the IDEXX giardia snap test. Lastly, if you are having trouble clearing the giardia from the dog's system, ask the vet about using metronidazole as well. eating stool definitely causes a bog problem with giardia.
