My kitten is vomiting and has diarrhea after amoxicillin. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 month and 19 days old

Sunday my kitten got pretty sick. We took him to the emergency vet and they gave him some antibiotics. He's acting fine now and is still super playful, but he started throwing up some and having diarrhea. He's still eating and drinking normally as well, I'm just wondering if it's a side effect to his medicine, amoxicillin, or if I should take him back to the vet.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could certainly be a side effect of the antibiotics though it could also be due to disease per se. For that reason, I recommend you check in with the veterinarian who prescribed the medication as they have more knowledge on the specifics on the case. They may recommend stopping the antibiotic or perhaps switching to a different one or just simply going in for an evaluation. I hope this was helpful. Best of luck!
