Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 4 years old | 115 lbs
My dog is acting COMPLETELY normal, but has had diarrhea for several days. I withheld food for 12 hours; put him on chicken and rice only, with some pumpkin. His stools are much more solid, but still not completely normal. Is that expected from the chicken/rice/pumpkin or should I be concerned? He’s eating and drinking fine, super playful, just acting completely normal.

The chicken and rice should be easier to digest and so the stool should be a better quality. The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including eating something he shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites or other even organ disease. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth. Continue giving the bland diet. I hope Bear gets back to normal quickly. Please feel free to post any additional questions!
