Why is my cat licking a red patch of missing fur on her back?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | 1 year and 1 month old | 4 lbs

Shima is my foster cat and we can't get her to the vet till next week she had this worrying red patch on her back yesterday which isn't red anymore but I would like to know what you think it could be. There is no swelling or bumps or spots it just looks like a patch of hair was ripped off. The first picture is from yesterday and the second picture is from today. She is eating, going to the toilet, and is as active and playful as usual. she just keeps licking it constantly it is irritating her

Shima could have a condition called ringworm which can spread to humans. There could also be something like an abscess beginning to form or she could have somehow injured that area. I do recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian as soon as you can get her there. Otherwise you do need to prevent her from licking the area since this will make it worse. Have her wear an Elizabethan collar at all times. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
