My puppy ate a tampon. What should I do if my vet is unavailable?

My Jack Chi puppy (4 months old) ate an old used tampon. He consumed the tampon at around 9 am and it is currently 4 pm. He hasn’t shown any signs of illness yet. My local vet is out of town and am not sure what to do. Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 11 days old | 12 lbs

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It may be best to have him evaluated by a veterinarian. They could attempt to remove it via endoscopy. Otherwise, monitor him closely for signs of a gastrointestinal obstruction such as vomiting, nausea and/or abdominal pain. If those are seen, have him evaluated then as he may need surgery. Hopefully he is fine. Best of luck!
