Indian Ringneck bird injured in cage. Can it wait for the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male | 2 months and 24 days old | 0.5 lbs

Indian ringneck injured trying to escape cage. Got stuck and I had to free him. Was bleeding from top of head and corner of mouth. Has stopped bleeding, still eating and maneuvering around cage but I can tell he is in some pain. No emergency/after hours avian vet in my area. However they will be open tomorrow I believe. I hope. He is a new pet and not too fond of hands. I've been working with him but forcing yourself on him makes him fight or flight. I dont want to stress him out any extra. Help

As long as he isn't actively bleeding and is responsive, then he can likely wait until tomorrow. Cover the cage to reduce stress and keep him warm. If there is a local veterinary ER, you can have him seen there if he is exceedingly painful. Call ahead to confirm they will see birds. Do not medicate him with any OTC products as some may be toxic to birds.
