My cat's appetite changed, she's losing weight. Is she sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 4 years and 11 months old | 5 lbs

What would make a cats appetite changes dramatically? She is almost 5 years old and has always ate dry food and some wet food, but I would get wet food as a treat. She use to catch mice and play with them, now she initially tries to eat them now or has ate them. She has lost alot of weight on top of it. As another note she has never jumped on table but recently she did it and started eating raw chicken that we just bought from the store. I'm in need of guidance because something is a miss.

Lilly looks like a lot of fun. Many things can alter the appetite: https://www.petcoach.co/article/why-isnt-my-cat-eating/ The weight loss is also very concerning for illness. I recommend to have Lilly examined by her veterinarian. Bring in a fresh stool sample for parasite testing and the doctor may need to check her blood values as well for any signs of disease. Try to get this done within the next few days. Best of luck.
