Why are my kitten's eyes watery and itchy? What home remedies help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 8 days old

Hello, I’ve noticed that these two junior of 7 months old, is having watery and itchy eyes since a few days. I’m not sure about the cause of this, maybe is it because of winter (here in Mauritius) or is it because of any allergic reaction? Why is this happening and what home remedy can I do to help them? Thanks in advance!

Allergies can cause itchy and runny eyes (usually with clear discharge) but other issues such as and injury to the eye, or the beginning of an upper respiratory infection can also cause eye discharge that may turn green or yellow or have other symptoms such as fever, loss of appetite, etc. It is always a good idea to rule out more serious issues with your vet first in case it requires treatment such as antibiotics. At home, you can gently wipe the eyes with a clean washcloth to keep them clear and open, or use an over the counter allergy medication, but if the problem persists, the discharge is discolored, or you are seeing other signs of illness, vet care is needed.
