My kittens won't eat solids. How do I wean them and stop nursing from mom?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

Mecedes kittens are behind in having solids such as mik. Out of the 5 kittens. Only 1 is giving us problem. I've changed to a human 3ml barrel so this kitten can suck on animal milk. My question is how often do these kittens require all feeds? What's the best way to stop the mother feeling the kittens? My last question is when does the mother go on heat again to get pregnant again? If you are able to provide me anymore information about this subject that would be great. Regards Tanya knipe

Hi Tanya. If the kittens are at least four weeks of age, they should be weaned onto kitten food. To help them wean and to get used to dry food, I would soak a high quality kitten formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with kitten formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry kitten food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until they are eating the dry kitten food only. Feed them at least three to four times a day. Keep them separated from Mercedes to wean them. She can go into heat anytime now. I hope this helps!
